Ms. Stephanie Lee
Dear Family Members, Guardians, and Students:

My name is Ms. Stephanie Lee, and I would like to be one of the first to welcome you to John Muir Middle School and the 6th grade! I will be your child’s teacher in 6th grade Math and Science. I am excited to get to know you over the course of the next year, as we work hard together to reach our students’ academic goals.

This is my first year teaching at Muir, but I previously taught English Language Arts at Markham Middle in Watts, and I have always dreamed of becoming a math teacher since I was in middle school myself. I believe that education is our greatest hope for a better life, and so I will work hard to ensure that your child is getting the best education possible. Education is also a team effort; you can help your child get the most out of his or her public education by doing the following:
- making sure your child comes to school everyday, with all their materials and supplies (notebooks, pencils, paper, calculator, agenda/organizer)
- making sure your child comes to school on time and prepared to learn (getting enough sleep the night before, making sure they eat enough before school, that they take any necessary medication or bring it with them)
- asking them about school and homework and providing a time and place for them to complete it
- coming in to visit! I would be happy to meet you and sit down with you and your child and discuss their progress. Just stop in any day after school!
- encouraging them to work hard in school and do their best every day.

Many of the skills and ideas we will be covering in 6th grade Math and Science will be important to your children’s future success, not only in the 7th and 8th grades, but will also be important to doing well on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and even later in life, as they go on to find jobs or go to college. These are big goals for your 6th graders to achieve, but I am positive that with a lot of hard work and determination, we will get there together!

Again, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Muir. If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. I look forward to working with you in the future to ensure your child’s success!

Sincerely,

Ms. Lee
